Extraordinary General Meeting Thursday 9 March 2012 Breakout Room, St Brycedale Campus 2pm
The meeting was called by the Student President, Beneta Brown, as per Schedule 2, section 2.3 of
the Constitution.
Enquiries were received from students concerning the recent press articles and allegations
against senior management. This meeting was to provide a platform to discuss the situation and provide guidance
to the Students' Association as to student opinion.
The meeting was quorate. With over 90 students
attending, the meeting was moved to St Bryce Kirk for health and saftey reasons.
The actions resolved were
as follows:
1. The President to sign the online petition on behalf of the EGM, and report the action
to the Board.
2. The President to report to the Board that the EGM supported the recent EIS/FELA
branch statement
3. The EGM called for a referendum to ask students if they want the suspension of the Principal
and those members of the Executive Team under investigation until an independent inquiry has been concluded, and all recommendations
implemented.
The President reported these EGM resolutions at
the meeting of the Board of Governors, held 9 February, 2012.
This has been confirmed by the Acting Secretary
of the Board who has provided us with the following extract from the Board Minutes of the meeting of the Board
of Governors of Adam Smith College held on 9 February 2012:
“The Student President
explained that 94 students had attended the EGM but four of these students had signed the attendance sheet and then left.
The EGM had authorised the Student President to sign the e-petition regarding the College’s current situation on behalf
of the Student Association and also report to the Board that the Student Association is in support of the recent EIS letter
to the Principal. The Student Association also authorised the Student President to call a referendum calling on the Board
to suspend the Principal. The Student President read out the question to be asked and also discussed that there had been a
proposed amendment of suspending the Principal without pay. The Student President explained that this referendum would take
place in the next few weeks. The mechanism to be used to conduct the referendum and the number of students who would be entitled
to vote was discussed.”
