This week the National Union of Students
has launched its annual online survey into students’ experiences with the Education Maintenance Allowance. The online
survey aims to gather information on students’ views on the information they received before applying, how they found
the application process and how far the grant goes to cover the costs associated with studying.
Through this survey, they aim to prove not just the value of EMA in relation to students’ experiences,
but also look for ways in which students would like to see the system improved. We want as many young people to complete this
UK wide survey so we’ll be working closely with students’ unions and the sector to get the best results.
Results in previous years have shown that 61% of students would not have been able
to afford to continue in education without EMA whilst 40% stated that they required additional sources of income on top of
EMA to meet course and associated course costs.
The online survey will
run until the 3rd March ahead of a launch in parliament on 15th March.
It shouldn't take
more than 10 minutes, so if you are in receipt of an EMA please take the time out to complete it.
Even if
you were refused an EMA there's still a chance to comment about it, so please consider responding.
