Kofi Annan Scholarship at Adam Smith College,

Supports Malawi Young People into College Study

FACT - Malawi...the 13th poorest country in the World!

In the last few years, Adam Smith College has taken the leading role in the Scotland-Malawi college partnership project, where 8 Scottish Colleges shared their experience and expertise with all of the vocational colleges in Malawi.

This partnership project was a great success, as we learned so much from each other, making friendships and being able to work together to assist in the long term sustainability of the Malawi Colleges.

FACT - Adam Smith College still maintains its links with Malawi!

Kofi Annan scholarship

Through the Kofi Annan scholarship, Adam Smith College supported 6 Malawi young people (2009 - 2010), by paying their tuition and exam fees for a full year of College study in Malawi.
These 6 young people, most of which were orphans, received £250 each, which allowed them to study vocational subjects such as computing, business, Joinery etc. All were successful in achieving their qualifications.

FACT - These scholarships have made a significant difference to the lives of the young person, in helping them to gain employment, which then allows them to provide food and clothing for their younger brothers and sisters.

This year, the Kofi Annan scholarship is supporting 3 young people at Lilongwe Technical College, with awards of £280 each.

With the help of our students, the Kofi Annan scholarship would like to continue this valuable assistance to the young people of Malawi.

REQUEST

Could our students consider raising funds for some young people in Malawi to attend College?

If student groups need to organise charitable activity as part of their learning programme or if a group of students wished to get involved in some informal fund raising, I would be delighted to meet with them, to explain more about this wonderful opportunity to make a significant difference to a Malawian young person.
