Nominate yourself
to become an NUS Delegate for 2012 to attend the NUS Conference! This is another chance for you to represent fellow
Adam Smith students, but this time in Sheffield.
The Annual Conference involves hundreds of students, and is taking place between
the 24th and 26th April 2012. Besides electing the national leadership for the following year, students get to vote
on the policies and decide the direction and priorities for the NUS for the following year.
Why should you nominate yourself?
◊ to have something great to put on your CV
◊ to represent the
views of 30,000 Adam Smith students
◊ to find out about the policies the NUS is proposing for 2012/13
NUS
National Conference is an event unlike any other. It is an incredibly exciting opportunity to shape student's lives. There
are not enough places in society where people come together to debate major issues, hear from speakers and experts in fringe
meetings and are able to elect leaders. You'll meet students and activists who are both like minded and different in their
opinions, but with a common belief that they want to do the best for students across the UK.
NUS National Conference is the
sovereign body of the organisation. It sets policy for the year ahead in each of the 5 zones and elects the President, Vice
Presidents and Block of 15 representatives on the National Executive Council. It is also where the budget for the year ahead
is decided through the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
We have eight places available. Authorised absence is
needed to attend since this is during the college week. You will only receive authorised absence if your Curriculum Head confirms
you are up to date with coursework and will be able to catch up with any work you miss while away. You will be accompanied
by the Student President who will be delegate leader.
Travel, accommodation and out of office expenses will be provided. You must
be aged 18 or over.
The closing date to submit your application is 5pm on 28 February. To apply email
jo@adamsmithstudent.com
You must supply the following information:
♦ Your name and student ID number
♦ The most convenient email
address to contact you on
♦ Your phone/mobile number
♦ Supporting text (no more than 100 words) stating
why you should get elected to conference. This will only be used if more than 8 students want to go
♦ A photo of
yourself which will be published with your supporting text
♦ An email from your Curriculum Head confirming you're up
to date with coursework and they're confident you'll be able to catch up with any work you might miss
In the event that more than 8 students want to go, an online ballot will
take place on the SA website. This will be from 9am Wednesday 29 Feb to 9am Friday 2 March.
