Facebook

We have today launched our Vote for Students Facebook Group. We do want students to get registered on our Vote for Students website, however we feel Facebook is an invaluable tool for us to publicise our campaign. Join the group and invite your friends. Remember, everyone is welcome to sign our pledge, not just current students.

Twitter

Firstly thanks to all those who have added a ‘twibbon’ to their twitter avatar.  There are currently 280 users on twitter with our twibbon – and it trended on the twibbon site this week.  For those of you yet to get a twibbon, please do think about it, and also encourage others to get involved, it’s a really good, quick and simple way for us to raise awareness about the campaign and the website.   http://twibbon.com/join/Vote-For-Students-2

You can also set your twitter background to be surrounded by colleagues and comrades who are also hooked into the campaign by clicking through to this site.  http://twibbon.com/cause/Vote-For-Students-2/twibute/Vote-For-Students-Twibute-250.  Again, thanks to those of you have already done this.

In order to spread the message of the campaign further we are hoping to have a co-ordinated effort to get #voteforstudents trending on Twitter in the UK with the hope that it drives more traffic to the website. Around 12noon on Thursday 18th February, we are inviting you to join with @wesstreeting, @aaronporter and I (@susan_nash) to get online and tweet about #voteforstudents – if this co-ordinated effort works and has the desired impact we will look to make this more of a regular scheduled feature.

The National Union of Students (NUS) has launched the ‘Vote for Students’ campaign, which aims to mobilise the student vote for the coming general election. The new initiative comes as the deadline for submissions to the review of student fees passes. NUS has warned that students and their families will not be prepared to pay more for less or vote for candidates who do not come clean on fees.

The campaign includes a new student vote website- Vote for Students - which offers students information about those standing for election in their local area, and highlights whether those standing for election have signed up to the NUS Funding our Future Pledge: “I pledge to vote against any increase in fees in the next parliament and to pressure the government to introduce a fairer alternative”

Increasing top up fees in England will affect students in Scotland.

NUS Scotland is asking students in Scotland to use their vote in the forthcoming general election to support candidates that would vote against an increase in top up fees in the Westminster parliament.  By signing the pledge, you will help NUS put pressure on candidates to come clean, and outline their position on fees.
