Have Your Say
What or who is Adam Smith College Students' Association?

The Students' Association (SA) is YOU and every other student on campus.

We are here for you, to support you throughout the year, help you make the most of your experience at Adam Smith College, we coordinate activities and events and most importantly represent your views.

In order to represent your views, officers and staff of the SA sit on College Committees, from Health & Safety to the Board of Governors, we ensure the interests of students are taken into account before any decisions are made.

You can keep up to date with this year's Executive Committee Meetings and Reports, as well as updates from the College Committees we attend, by visiting here.

As a student you automatically become a member of the SA when you enrol.  This entitles you to apply for an NUS Extra Card and use of our facilities and services.

The SA is an autonomous students' union, t
he team which helps in its day-to-day running includes six Vice Presidents (voluntary), the Sabbatical President and the SA Coordinator (both full time).

The SA President for 2011/2012 is Beneta Brown.  Ben will be dedicated to improving the student experience, maximising student representation and ensuring the Students' Association has a better presence on all campuses.

SA Constitution

The governing document of the Association is its Constitution and Schedules.  This document can be changed at any duly convened General Meeting of the SA.

OPTING OUT

As a registered student you automatically become a member of the Association, however each student has the right not to be a member and to opt out.

Students who wish to opt out will not be unfairly disadvantaged with regard to the provision of our services or otherwise, by reason of having done so.

Students who wish to opt out will be granted Associate Membership and allowed access to all of the services provided by the Association.  A charge may be made for the use of certain services.

Students granted Associate Membership, will, in effect, have all of the rights and privelages of Ordinary Members with the exception that they may not vote in elections arranged by the Association; nor may they hold elected office or become members of any group or committee established by the Association for any purpose connected with the affairs of the Association.

Students granted Associate status are subject to the Disciplinary Rules and Regulations of the Association and must comply with the law as it relates to the Association's premises including activities conducted within those premises whether or not those activities are arranged or sponsored by the Association.

If you wish to opt out of membership you must notify the Director of Learner Services in writing within six weeks of the start of your course.  Notification will then be sent to the Stduent President and a letter confirming Associate Membership will be provided to you.

If you have opted out and wish to become a member of the Association, notify the Director of Learner Services in writing.  If your application falls within twenty college days of nominations opening for an Association election, you will not be eligible to take up the full privileges of membership until the nomination period has closed.
